Four West Bengal men arrested as 71 kg ganja seized at Palakkad railway station

Four men from West Bengal were arrested after a joint operation seized more than 71 kg of ganja at Palakkad railway station on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

The operation was carried out by the crime wing of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the RPF unit at Palakkad, and the Excise Enforcement and Anti-Narcotic Special Squad.

The arrested men were identified as Mainul Islam, 21; Mannan Molla, 38; Tojammal S.K., 36; and Noor Islam, 19. All four are residents of Murshidabad district in West Bengal. The seized ganja is estimated to be worth ₹35 lakh.

The operation was led by RPF Inspector Girish C. and Excise Inspector Noufal. The Palakkad Excise Enforcement and Anti-Narcotic Special Squad registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and has launched an investigation.

The seizure comes close on the heels of another major haul in the district. On September 2, a special police squad arrested six Odisha natives with 53.453 kg of ganja at Olavakkode.

The six were identified as Jikhoria Digal, 22; Phurandar Khura, 34; Judhisdi Bibhar, 28; Labanya Khura, 25; Anilkumar Digal, 28; and Khrist Digal, 45.

With the two seizures occurring a week apart, investigators suspect that both groups were part of a larger network involved in transporting cannabis to Kerala from the eastern states.
