Pangolins Rescued as Wildfires Ravage Borneo Forest

A wildfire sweeping through a forested area in the Merasa district of Berau Regency, East Kalimantan, Indonesia, has driven wildlife into peril, prompting a local rescue operation. The blaze, which broke out near residential settlements, trapped several pangolins in the affected zone.
The Conservation Animal Network (CAN), a group dedicated to wildlife rescue in Kalimantan, deployed a team to search the scorched landscape. They located multiple pangolins in distress and safely captured them. A veterinarian on site examined each animal before they were placed in transport containers and moved to a rehabilitation center.
At the facility, the rescued pangolins will be monitored and treated until they recover sufficiently to be released back into their natural habitat. Their release will depend on their health and the condition of the environment.
Meanwhile, firefighters continued battling the blaze on September 3, focusing on extinguishing fires burning underground. The efforts aim to prevent the fire from reigniting and causing further harm to the area's wildlife and communities.
