Industrial activity in Panihati municipality in West Bengal has been at a standstill for months, with waterlogging and inadequate drainage infrastructure cited as the cause.
Debasish Dutta, a local resident and activist, has repeatedly flagged the problem. He said he has written to the earlier Trinamool Congress government as well as to the current Bharatiya Janata Party administration, but no corrective action has followed.
The municipality's drainage system has been unable to cope with the accumulation of water, leaving industrial units unable to operate normally. The disruption has persisted over an extended period rather than being limited to a single spell of bad weather.
Dutta's complaints span two successive regimes, underscoring that the issue has outlasted a change in government. Despite the representations, the situation on the ground remains unchanged, with no relief measures reported for the affected industries or residents.
The continued halt to industrial work points to unresolved gaps in urban drainage and civic maintenance in the area.
