Paris Court Awards Kim Kardashian 1 Euro Over 2016 Jewel Heist
A Paris court awarded Kim Kardashian 1 euro for the 2016 armed robbery at a private residence, the amount she had requested.
A Paris court on Tuesday awarded Kim Kardashian 1 euro ($1.15) as compensation for the armed robbery she endured in the French capital in 2016, matching the sum she had sought, a lawyer involved in the case said.
The ruling follows last year's conviction of eight people for their roles in the heist, which the U.S. celebrity has described as the most terrifying experience of her life. Kardashian has since sought to move on from the episode.
According to the court's written decisions, a former receptionist at the Hôtel de Pourtalès was awarded 109,516 euros ($126,472). Kardashian had been staying at the hotel when the gang targeted her. The receptionist said he was traumatized by the October 2, 2016, jewel theft during Fashion Week and had sought 550,000 euros ($634,868) in damages and interest. His lawyer, Mohand Ouidja, welcomed the outcome as a victory.
The hotel itself was awarded 50,000 euros ($57,741), while Simone Bretter, Kardashian's stylist who was present during the robbery, received 1 euro. French lawyers who represented Kardashian during the trial did not respond to requests for comment this week.
During the robbery, two men dressed as police officers forced their way into her suite, bound her with zip ties and tape, and fled with more than $6 million in jewelry, including a diamond ring she had worn that night to a Givenchy show.
Because of their ages, the perpetrators became known in France as "les papys braqueurs," or the grandpa robbers. Six were in their 60s and 70s when tried on charges including armed robbery, kidnapping and gang association. With credit for time served in pretrial detention, none of those convicted returned to prison, and none appealed.
In a statement after the verdict, Kardashian said she was deeply grateful to French authorities for pursuing justice. She called the crime the most terrifying experience of her life, saying it left a lasting impact on her and her family, and added that she remains committed to advocating for justice and a fair legal system.
