Hundreds of people assembled in Paris on Wednesday evening to witness a solar eclipse, an event that drew families, enthusiasts, and curious onlookers to the André Citroën Park in the city's southwestern area.
Volunteers from the French Astronomy Association were present at the gathering, handing out free protective glasses. Julien Gouffier, a volunteer, emphasized the importance of eye safety, noting that even with the sun low on the horizon, direct viewing during an eclipse poses significant risks. The distribution aimed to ensure everyone could enjoy the phenomenon without harm.
Among the attendees was Yara Zgheip, who brought her children and husbands to experience the event. She described the eclipse as incredible, noting that none of them had ever witnessed one before. The emotional impact of the event was palpable, especially given that France's last total eclipse occurred in 1999.
Experienced observers also shared their insights. Sebastien Durand explained the use of a small telescope equipped with a specialized front filter, warning that without such precautions, the damage to eyes could be instantaneous. Simon Lucchesini reflected on the unusual atmosphere, noting how the sky darkened and the temperature seemed to drop, creating a strange yet beautiful experience.
Following the eclipse, the French Astronomy Association continued to host stargazing activities at the park, extending the evening's celestial celebration.
