College Baseball Player Shot Dead by Police After Wrong-Turn Mix-Up, Father Says
A 22-year-old college student was fatally shot by Pennsylvania police after mistakenly going to the wrong house; his father says he was unarmed.
The father of a 22-year-old college student fatally shot by police in Pennsylvania says his son was unarmed and had simply gone to the wrong home after a night out with friends.
Glenwood Pysher IV was killed early Sunday morning in Upper Pottsgrove Township, northwest of Philadelphia. Police had responded to a 911 call about a possible burglary attempt around 12:30 a.m., according to the Montgomery County district attorney's office. Officers found Pysher at the rear of the home and shot him, the office said.
His father, Glen Pysher, said his son and friends had visited several bars and were splitting up to sleep at two different houses. Glenwood took a wrong turn in the woods and mistakenly tried to enter what he thought was a friend's home.
"The kid was unarmed. He had nothing on him but a cell phone and a backpack with some overnight clothes," the father said. "He was not trying to break into nobody's home."
Glen Pysher also questioned the timeline of events. He said his son was on a FaceTime call with friends at 12:32 a.m., and they were told the shooting occurred at 12:35 a.m. "What kind of communication could that officer have given him?" he asked. "It couldn't have happened in two minutes."
The father also expressed frustration that law enforcement has not shared details with the family. "The police, the law enforcement is not talking to us at all," he said.
Glenwood was about to begin his senior year at Saint Elizabeth University in New Jersey, where he played baseball. His father said he hoped to become a high school history teacher and coach. He described his son as a kindhearted, loving young man who was well-liked in his community.
The district attorney's office has not released further details about the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
