Pixar's 'Cars' Returns to Theatres for 20th Anniversary Celebration

Pixar's beloved animated film 'Cars' is heading back to the big screen for a limited theatrical run beginning September 4, marking the movie's 20th anniversary. The re-release coincides with Lightning McQueen Day on September 5, a nod to the character's iconic #95 racing number voiced by Owen Wilson.

The anniversary will be celebrated throughout the year with a series of themed events and collaborations. Fans can catch special screenings at the Tee-Pee Drive-In and Tulsa Circle Cinema. In the motorsport world, a life-size Lightning McQueen and a 'Cars'-wrapped Mercedes safety car will appear at the Formula 1 Gran Premio D'Italia at Monza in September, where attendees can shop the 'Cars Collection for Formula 1.' Additionally, an activation with Nascar is planned for the Daytona 500 in February.

Museum-goers will also have opportunities to see life-size 'Cars' exhibits at the Beaulieu National Motor Museum in England, the National Automobile Museum in Italy, and the Petersen Automotive Museum and National Automobile Museum in the United States.

The 2006 film follows a hotshot rookie race car who, en route to the biggest race of his life, gets stranded in a rundown town and learns that winning isn't everything. The voice cast includes Paul Newman as Doc Hudson, Larry the Cable Guy as Mater, and Bonnie Hunt as Sally. John Lasseter directed the film, produced by Darla K. Anderson, with original music by Randy Newman.

'Cars' won Best Animated Film at the 2007 Golden Globes and received Oscar nominations for Best Original Song and Best Animated Feature Film.
