Goyal to Attend G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting in US, Push India-US Trade Pact

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will travel to the United States for a week-long official visit beginning September 29, during which he will take part in the G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting and hold a series of engagements with American industry, investors and the startup community.

The Ministry of Commerce & Industry said the visit, running through October 5, is aimed at advancing sustained economic cooperation, with progress across key sectors seen as dependent on partnerships with a range of stakeholders.

Goyal will attend the G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on September 30 and October 1, following an invitation from the United States Trade Representative. Trade ministers from G20 economies will use the multilateral gathering to discuss priorities in international commerce.

Ahead of the sessions, the ministry set out India's approach, saying New Delhi will engage constructively with all G20 members. It said India will work towards a rules-based, open, inclusive, transparent, equitable and non-discriminatory multilateral trading system, with the World Trade Organization at its core, while ensuring adequate policy space for developing countries.

On the margins of the Milwaukee meeting, Goyal will hold bilateral discussions with his counterparts. These talks are expected to focus on expanding economic opportunities for Indian farmers, fishermen, women entrepreneurs, startups, micro, small and medium enterprises, and other domestic businesses.

The bilateral engagements form part of continuing negotiations towards a balanced and mutually beneficial India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement, including efforts to conclude an interim deal in line with the Joint Statement signed on February 7, 2026.

In Milwaukee and Chicago, the minister will meet chief executives of major American corporations active in manufacturing, consumer goods, agri-business, retail and technology. He will also participate in focused roundtables with business leaders, startup founders and innovative enterprises, where he is expected to highlight India's commercial opportunities as an expanding manufacturing base and a preferred investment destination, and to invite American firms to deepen their integration with Indian enterprises.

In Chicago, Goyal will pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on Gandhi Jayanti and homage to Swami Vivekananda. He will also interact with professional organisations representing the Indian diaspora.

The ministry said the mission will further strengthen trade and investment ties between India and the United States while deepening India's engagement with its G20 partners.
