Piyush Goyal to Visit US for G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting, Bilateral Talks
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will visit the US from 29 September to 5 October 2026 for the G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting and bilateral engagements.
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal will travel to the United States from 29 September to 5 October 2026, with the G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, anchoring a week of diplomatic and business engagements.
Goyal will attend the trade ministers' gathering on 30 September and 1 October at the invitation of the United States Trade Representative. The meeting will bring together trade ministers from G20 economies.
India is expected to press for a multilateral trading system that is rules-based, open, inclusive, transparent, equitable and non-discriminatory, with the World Trade Organization at its centre, while safeguarding adequate policy space for developing countries. On the margins of the summit, Goyal will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts, with discussions set to focus on creating wider opportunities for farmers, fishermen, women entrepreneurs, startups, MSMEs and other enterprises.
A key strand of the visit is the ongoing effort to advance a balanced and mutually beneficial India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement. Goyal will meet his American counterpart as both sides work to finalise an interim deal, in keeping with the Joint Statement of 7 February 2026.
Beyond Milwaukee, the minister will travel to Chicago and New York, where he is scheduled to meet chief executives of leading American companies across manufacturing, consumer goods, agri-business, retail and technology. He will also take part in roundtables with businesses, startups and innovative firms, pitching India as a manufacturing and investment destination and inviting American companies to deepen partnerships with Indian enterprises.
In Chicago, Goyal will mark Gandhi Jayanti by paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda, and will interact with professional associations representing the Indian community.
The visit is expected to reinforce the trade and investment partnership between India and the United States and to further India's engagement with its G20 partners.
