PM Modi Highlights Climate Inequality, Says Developed Nations Emit Six Times More
PM Modi said developed countries have six times India's per capita carbon emissions and called on Indians to assert this fact globally.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has drawn attention to the disparity in carbon emissions between developed nations and India, stating that developed countries emit six times more carbon per person than India does.
Speaking on the issue, Modi said New Delhi has been strongly projecting this fact on international platforms. He also urged citizens to take up the argument themselves, saying every Indian should state it forcefully.
The remarks place the focus on the principle of per capita emissions, a measure on which India's footprint remains comparatively low even as its total emissions rank among the world's higher brackets. New Delhi has consistently used this metric in global climate negotiations to press developed economies for deeper cuts and to seek climate finance and technology support.
Modi's call for citizens to amplify the point signals that the government intends to keep the equity dimension at the centre of its climate diplomacy. The intervention comes amid continuing international discussions over how the burden of emission reductions should be shared among nations at different stages of development.
