PM Modi rides Metro to SRCC centenary, calls alumni 'OGs'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday travelled by the Delhi Metro to reach Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) in North Delhi, where he attended the institution's centenary celebrations. During the journey, he was seen interacting with students and fellow passengers.

Earlier in the day, Modi had announced his visit on X, praising SRCC's contribution to higher education. He noted that the college has distinguished itself through academic excellence and institution-building, nurturing generations of leaders in business, public life, and society.

Shri Ram College of Commerce, affiliated with the University of Delhi, was established in 1926 by industrialist and philanthropist Sir Shri Ram. Over the past century, it has built a strong reputation, particularly in Commerce, Economics, and Management, producing scholars, professionals, administrators, entrepreneurs, and policymakers.

Addressing students and guests at the centenary celebrations, Modi highlighted the college's standing within Delhi University. "Even today, when someone at Delhi University asks which college you are from, saying 'SRCC' speaks for itself. Simply saying 'SRCC' is a flex in itself," he said.

The Prime Minister also recalled his interactions with former Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, an SRCC alumnus. "The alumni of SRCC have also been very special. In your language, I would say the alumni here are the OGs," Modi said, adding that Jaitley often shared incidents from his SRCC days during their meetings.

He also mentioned Sanjeev Sanyal, a current member of his team, as an alumnus of the college. Modi noted that SRCC has produced people from every field, including artists, politicians, lawyers, and judges.

The visit also included an interaction with Gen Z students, providing them an opportunity to share their views, aspirations, and concerns directly with the Prime Minister.
