Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to the renowned Bengali writer Saratchandra Chattopadhyay on his 150th birth anniversary, describing him as a versatile literary figure whose work continues to resonate across languages and generations.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said Chattopadhyay's writings have been translated into every Indian language as well as several foreign languages. He noted that the author is remembered for his accurate and sensitive portrayal of 19th-century India, particularly Bengali society in rural areas.
Modi also drew attention to Chattopadhyay's commitment to social reform, women's rights and nationalism, describing these as equally noteworthy aspects of his legacy.
Urging younger readers to engage with the writer's body of work, the Prime Minister called upon more youngsters to read his writings in the times to come.
The tribute was shared in both English and Bengali, reflecting the writer's enduring place in Bengali literature and his wider reach across India.
