PM Modi Asks Global Tech CEOs to Join India's Next Semiconductor Push
PM Modi invited top semiconductor and technology CEOs to partner in India's next phase of chip sector growth, stressing skilling and emerging technologies.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited chief executives from leading semiconductor and technology firms to take part in the next phase of India's semiconductor expansion, pitching the country as a partner in skilling, innovation and frontier technologies.
Speaking at a roundtable with industry leaders, Modi underlined the need for close cooperation between the government and the semiconductor sector in shaping India's technological future. He pointed to the country's talent base, its record of technology adoption and its infrastructure as the foundations on which that partnership can be built.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, Modi called for deeper industry involvement in training and innovation, and in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing. Referring to the goal of training one crore people in AI, he said India's workforce, combined with the expertise of global industry leaders, could open up substantial opportunities.
The meeting drew CEOs, heads and representatives from a wide cross-section of the chip ecosystem, including SEMI, Micron, Infineon, Applied Materials, ASML, Merck, Tokyo Electron Ltd, Fujifilm, AMD, Intel, Tata Electronics, Lam Research, Rapidus, NXP, Foxconn, Semi Conductor Devices, Advantest, Celesta Capital, CG Power and IBM Research.
Modi said India should aim to be among the early leaders in new and emerging technologies. He noted the progress already made in semiconductors and described the sector as moving from initial, foundational work into a phase of larger scale and opportunity.
Reiterating the government's commitment to a predictable and responsive policy environment, he said rules must keep pace with technological change and industry needs. He asked industry leaders to share suggestions on policy and administrative measures, assuring them that their inputs would receive due consideration as the sector is strengthened further.
The executives welcomed the government's sustained efforts to build India's semiconductor capabilities and pointed to advances in manufacturing, design, infrastructure and talent development. They expressed confidence in the opportunities emerging under ISM 2.0 and in India's ability to build capabilities across the semiconductor value chain, including manufacturing, research and development, advanced technologies and supporting industries.
Acknowledging the Prime Minister's leadership and support, the CEOs said the progress of recent years had laid a strong base for greater industry participation, and committed to contributing to India's emergence as a globally competitive semiconductor and technology hub.
