PM to launch Rs 35,000-crore infrastructure push in Vadodara on Sept 8
PM Modi will inaugurate and lay foundations for rail, road, and civic projects worth over Rs 35,000 crore in Vadodara, including full WDFC operations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Vadodara, Gujarat, on September 8 to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for a wide range of infrastructure projects collectively valued at over Rs 35,000 crore. The initiatives span rail, road, and civic development, with a focus on boosting freight efficiency and regional connectivity.
A key highlight of the visit will be the commissioning of three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), covering 326 route kilometres at a cost exceeding Rs 20,700 crore. The sections—Sanand (North)-Makarpura, New Umbergaon-New Saphale, and New Saphale-JNPT—will make the entire WDFC operational. This direct link to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority is expected to accelerate export-import cargo movement, reduce logistics costs, and ease congestion on Mumbai's rail network. The Prime Minister will also flag off freight services from New Sanand (North), New Makarpura, New Umbergaon, and New JNPT.
In addition, Modi will dedicate the Jobat-Tanda Road new rail line, part of the Chhota Udepur-Dhar project, connecting remote tribal areas of Alirajpur to the national network. A new passenger service between Vadodara and Tanda Road will also be flagged off.
Foundation stones will be laid for three railway projects spanning 329 km, worth over Rs 9,700 crore, including the Vadodara-Ratlam third and fourth lines, gauge conversion of the Miyagam Karjan-Choranda-Malsar section, and doubling of the Vishwamitri-Dabhoi section. These are designed to enhance capacity and connectivity between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
On the road front, three National Highway projects worth about Rs 1,780 crore will be launched, including six-laning of the Kamrej-Chalthan section of NH-48, major bridges over the Tapi and Narmada rivers, and grade-separated structures on NH-53. Six-lane flyovers at Kandari Chokdi and Luvara Patia will also be inaugurated to improve safety on the Vadodara-Surat corridor.
Further, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay foundations for Gujarat government projects worth around Rs 2,600 crore, including Phase II of the Vadodara Urban Development Authority Ring Road, a 110 MW floating solar project at Kadana Dam, and a new Vadodara Municipal Corporation office. Inaugurations will also cover PMAY housing and a water-supply scheme for 11 villages in eastern Vadodara.
