PM to Undertake Central Asia Visit, Attend SCO Summit in Bishkek
PM's Central Asia tour: state visit to Uzbekistan, SCO Summit in Kyrgyzstan, and attendance at the World Nomad Games.
The Prime Minister will embark on a four-day visit to Central Asia from August 29 to September 1, 2026, covering Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic. The tour begins with a State Visit to Tashkent on August 29-30 at the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
During the Uzbekistan leg, the focus will be on advancing the India-Uzbekistan Strategic Partnership. Discussions are slated to cover trade and investment, digital connectivity, defence, and energy cooperation. The Prime Minister will also pay tribute to shared cultural ties by visiting the Shastri Memorial and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.
From Tashkent, the Prime Minister will travel to Bishkek at the invitation of President Sadyr Zhaparov to participate in the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. The summit marks the 25th anniversary of the organisation, of which India has been a member since 2017.
At the SCO, the Prime Minister is expected to present India's vision for regional security, connectivity, and opportunity. The agenda includes working with member states to counter terrorism, separatism, and extremism. The visit will also feature a meeting with President Zhaparov and attendance at the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games, celebrating Central Asia's living heritage.
The visit is aimed at strengthening India's strategic partnerships in Central Asia and deepening civilisational links, with a focus on shared goals of peace, stability, and prosperity.
