Pony.ai and Uber to Bring 2,000 Robotaxis to European Cities

Pony.ai and Uber plan to deploy over 2,000 robotaxis across Europe, building on their existing Zagreb service and eyeing Middle East expansion.

Chinese autonomous driving company Pony.ai has announced plans to deploy more than 2,000 robotaxis across Europe as part of an expanded partnership with ride-hailing giant Uber. The announcement, made on Friday, marks a significant scale-up of a collaboration that began in May 2025.

The two companies already operate a commercial robotaxi service in Zagreb, Croatia's capital. Under the new plan, the service will be extended to four additional European cities, though the names of these cities have not been disclosed. Pony.ai's statement also indicated that the partnership's expansion would eventually reach the Middle East, but provided no further specifics on that front.

No timeline has been given for when the European rollout will be completed. The announcement signals a growing push by Chinese autonomous vehicle firms to establish a foothold in international markets, leveraging partnerships with established mobility platforms like Uber to navigate regulatory and operational challenges abroad.
