Prajwal Revanna, Jail Mate Remanded in Two-Day Police Custody Over Phone Seizure
Former MP Prajwal Revanna and Prathap Rai were remanded to two days of police custody over a phone found in prison.
A Bengaluru court on Tuesday placed former MP Prajwal Revanna and his prison associate Prathap Rai under two days of police custody. The order comes in connection with the alleged recovery of a mobile phone from inside the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.
The two were produced before the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate after the local police obtained a body warrant. Investigators sought their custody to determine how the prohibited device reached Revanna and the purpose for which it was being used within the jail premises.
The matter surfaced following a raid conducted by the Central Crime Branch on August 11, during which a smartphone was reportedly seized from Revanna. The device is said to have contained social media applications such as Facebook and WhatsApp and has been forwarded to a forensic laboratory for examination.
According to the case details, the phone was allegedly used to stay in touch with Revanna's family members and legal counsel. Investigators have also noted that the SIM card linked to the device was procured from Andhra Pradesh. The FIR names Prathap Rai as Accused No. 1, with Revanna listed as Accused No. 2.
