President Murmu urges teachers to nurture scientific temper, 'nation first' spirit

President Droupadi Murmu has called upon teachers to mould students who combine a scientific temperament with a deep respect for India's cultural heritage and an unwavering commitment to the nation.

In a message published on the occasion of Teachers' Day on September 5, 2026, the President wrote that educators have a sacred duty to guide young people towards becoming good human beings. She noted that students who achieve success while remaining ethical in thought and action are the truest reflection of a teacher's efforts.

President Murmu emphasised that the country is progressing steadily towards its goal of becoming a developed nation, with social inclusion as a core principle. She urged teachers to help students uphold the ideal of Antyodaya, protect the environment, and strive for both individual and collective excellence.

Highlighting the deep trust that families place in teachers, the President said it is the dharma of every educator to honour that faith by ensuring the safety and holistic development of every child. She cautioned that a teacher's behaviour should never instil fear, break a student's morale, or foster feelings of inferiority.

Encouraging independent thinking, curiosity, and the capacity for reasoned argument, President Murmu said such an inspiring education would produce successful entrepreneurs, brilliant scientists, and creative artists capable of solving emerging challenges.

Recalling the influence of her own teachers, she noted that a loving and dedicated mentor can awaken limitless potential in a student, giving them the courage to face life's toughest challenges. She appealed to all citizens to hold sincere teachers in the highest esteem, expressing confidence that with their contribution, India will continue to learn and eventually lead.
