Prime Video to chronicle Gary Lineker's life in new docu-series

Prime Video announces a four-part docu-series on Gary Lineker, covering his football career, broadcasting, and media ventures.

Prime Video is set to release a four-part documentary series titled Lineker, offering an in-depth look at the life and career of former England footballer and broadcaster Gary Lineker. The series will span his five-decade journey, from his early days in Leicester to his rise as a footballing icon and his later success as a media entrepreneur.

Lineker, once England's record goalscorer, became a household name on the pitch. After retiring, he transitioned to broadcasting, hosting the BBC's flagship football programme Match of the Day for 26 years. In recent years, he has also built a media empire through Goalhanger, the podcasting company he co-founded, which produces popular shows like The Rest is Football.

The documentary will also explore how Lineker's public image evolved from a 'Mr Nice Guy' on the field to a more outspoken and sometimes polarising figure in modern Britain. As political debates around Brexit and the Israel-Hamas conflict intensified, Lineker often found himself at the centre of controversy, with right-wing media labelling him a liberal left-winger.

Announcing the project on Instagram, Prime Video UK described it as a "no-holds-barred" series featuring nostalgic and unseen personal archive footage. The series will cover his childhood, football stardom, broadcasting career, and his current role as a podcaster and entrepreneur.

Lineker is produced by Orchard Studios, with Nat Lippiett and former Amazon Studios UK chief Dan Grabiner serving as executive producers. The series is scheduled to premiere globally on Prime Video in 2027.
