A technology professional in Pune district was assaulted on camera while speaking to a media channel, in an incident that has triggered widespread condemnation.
The victim, identified as Vidyanand Bapat, was in the middle of an interview when an unidentified attacker walked up and slapped him. The entire sequence was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media platforms.
The attacker, heard in the footage, accused Bapat of being against Ganeshotsav and Hindu festivals, calling him an atheist. He was heard saying that Bapat "should be slapped more" for his alleged stance.
The assault appears to be linked to a controversy over a ban on DJs during the upcoming Ganesh festival period. While the exact context of Bapat's remarks in the interview is not yet clear, the incident has raised concerns about the rising intolerance in public discourse.
