Punjab Cop, Sister Injured in Attack After He Reported Drug Peddlers

A Punjab Police constable and his sister were seriously injured in an alleged attack by unidentified youths in Gurdaspur district. The incident took place at Babbehali Adda, and both victims have been admitted to the Civil Hospital for treatment.

Constable Karanpreet Singh has alleged that the assault was a direct consequence of his earlier efforts to report drug peddlers operating in his village to the police. He claimed the accused were angered by his complaint and that he had been targeted previously as well, but no action was taken at the time.

According to investigating officer Harwinder Singh, Karanpreet Singh was travelling with his sister Baljinder Kaur on a motorcycle when three or four men stopped them and launched the attack. Both sustained multiple serious injuries.

Police stated that Karanpreet was on duty at Babbehali Chhinj when information about a fight at the adda was received. By the time officers arrived, the attack had already occurred and the injured pair had been taken to hospital. An investigation has been launched to identify the attackers, with authorities promising strict action.

The incident has drawn political criticism. BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu condemned the state's law-and-order situation, saying drug smugglers had broken the legs of a constable who raised his voice against them. He questioned the safety of uniformed personnel and accused the AAP government of failing to deliver on its anti-drug promises, claiming smugglers operate openly while the administration focuses on publicity.
