Punjab Police Bust Drone-Linked Heroin Racket, Four Arrested With 20 kg
CI Amritsar arrested four Amritsar residents and seized 20 kg of heroin, the fourth major cross-border recovery in a week.
Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has dismantled a cross-border narcotics module, arresting four men and recovering 20 kg of heroin, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Wednesday.
The arrested men have been identified as Rohan of Baba Jiwan Singh Colony, Deepak Bakhshi of Partap Bazar, Rishabh Kumar of Golden Avenue and Ishaan Bedi of New Ranjit Pura, all residents of Amritsar city. Two motorcycles allegedly used to move the consignment were also impounded.
The seizure is the fourth major cross-border narcotics recovery in a week, taking the total heroin recovered by CI Amritsar in that period to 74 kg. The earlier recoveries were 27 kg, 10 kg and 17 kg.
According to the DGP, preliminary investigation indicates the module was being run by a Dubai-based drug smuggler working with associates in Punjab and other foreign-based smugglers.
CI Amritsar teams had specific information that operatives of the Dubai-based smuggler had picked up a heroin consignment from the India-Pakistan border area near Village Rajatal in Tarn Taran district. The consignment had allegedly been flown in from across the border using drones, and the operatives were on their way to an area near Dana Mandi, Satlani Sahib Gurudwara in Amritsar to hand it over to another party.
Acting on the input, police raided the area and intercepted the four men, recovering the 20 kg of heroin from them. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
