Punjab Influencer Dies Two Months After Abduction, Assault and Burning
Punjab influencer Manjeet Kaur, 28, died on August 26 from burns suffered in a July attack. Police are hunting two suspects.
Manjeet Kaur, a 28-year-old social media influencer from Punjab, died on August 26 at PGIMER Chandigarh, nearly two months after she was allegedly abducted, assaulted, and set on fire. She is survived by her seven-year-old son.
According to a complaint filed by her mother, Kaur was lured to meet two acquaintances, identified as Shubhi and Pinda, near a liquor shop in Sector 34, Chandigarh, on July 3. The complaint alleges the accused forced her into a car and drove her to Morinda in Punjab's Rupnagar district.
There, she was allegedly assaulted, tied to a mulberry tree, and set ablaze. A friend reportedly reached the scene and extinguished the flames with a blanket. Kaur was initially treated at a hospital in Morinda, then moved to Mohali, and was referred to PGIMER Chandigarh on July 9 due to the severity of her burns.
She remained unconscious for several weeks. On August 5, she briefly regained consciousness and described the incident to her family before her condition deteriorated. She died on August 26.
Police have not yet established a motive for the attack. Following her death, an FIR was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 140(1) (kidnapping), 103(1) (murder), and 3(5) (joint criminal liability).
Sector 34 SHO Shadi Lal confirmed the case was registered on the mother's complaint. Raids are underway to trace and arrest the two accused, and investigators are examining CCTV footage and other evidence.
