Bhadrachalam Pushkar Ghat Works Begin Ahead of 2027 Godavari Pushkarams

Construction of Pushkar ghats along the Godavari river in the temple town of Bhadrachalam commenced on Saturday, marking the start of preparations for the 2027 Godavari Pushkarams, a festival held once every 12 years.

The State government has earmarked ₹46.65 crore for the first phase of the project. The entire exercise, to be carried out in three phases, is estimated to cost around ₹49 crore, with the second and third phases budgeted at ₹1.75 crore and ₹60 lakh respectively. Officials said the works are expected to be completed by March next year.

New ghats will be constructed at three locations in Bhadradri Kothagudem district: Bhadrachalam, Parnashala in Dummugudem mandal, and Mothepattinagar in Burgampadu mandal.

A bhoomi puja was held in Bhadrachalam to mark the beginning of the works, attended by Bhadrachalam MLA Tellam Venkat Rao and District Collector Ankit.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Venkat Rao urged officials to ensure timely completion of the ghats while maintaining quality standards. He noted that the State government has sanctioned ₹351 crore for the redevelopment of the historic Sree Seetha Ramachandra Swamy temple in Bhadrachalam, with work already underway.

The MLA also requested the Roads and Buildings Department to construct a full-fledged service road along the karakatta (flood bank) beside the Godavari. This, he said, would ensure smooth movement of pilgrims during the 2027 Pushkarams.
