Putin, Jaishankar Hold Kremlin Talks as India-Russia Trade Rebounds
Putin and Jaishankar met in Moscow, highlighting growing trade, fertilizer supplies, and upcoming SCO and BRICS summits.
Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar at the Kremlin on Monday for talks focused on deepening bilateral ties.
Opening the meeting, Putin noted that trade turnover between the two countries has increased this year after a slight dip in the previous year. He attributed the recovery in part to the personal attention given by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strengthening Russia-India relations.
Putin also addressed cooperation in key sectors, saying Russia is working to meet the needs of Indian farmers by increasing fertilizer supplies. He added that nuclear energy and high-technology collaboration remain on the agenda and are progressing steadily.
Jaishankar acknowledged the significant growth in economic cooperation and conveyed Modi's anticipation of meeting Putin at the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Kyrgyzstan. He also extended an invitation for Putin to attend the BRICS summit in India and mentioned plans for the annual bilateral summit.
The meeting underscores the continued strategic engagement between Moscow and New Delhi amid shifting global alignments.
