Putin hosts Myanmar junta chief in Moscow for talks on ties and trade
Putin and Min Aung Hlaing held talks in Moscow, focusing on economic cooperation and Russia's ties with ASEAN, with both sides expressing mutual gratitude.
Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Min Aung Hlaing, the head of Myanmar's military-backed government, in Moscow on Tuesday for talks covering bilateral relations and regional cooperation.
During the meeting, Putin thanked Min Aung Hlaing for his role in advancing Russia's engagement with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). He noted that the two countries are actively cooperating on the international stage and stressed the need to strengthen economic ties, pointing to existing foundations and promising projects.
Min Aung Hlaing, in turn, expressed gratitude for Russia's support, particularly recalling the swift deployment of Russian rescue teams following a devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar last year. He said the assistance saved lives and that he still remembers the help provided.
The Moscow visit is Min Aung Hlaing's seventh trip to Russia. He previously met Putin on the sidelines of the World Atomic Week Forum in September. Putin has never visited Myanmar.
