Qatar calls for regional dialogue as sanctions and Israel tensions mount

Qatar's Foreign Ministry has reiterated that reaching diplomatic solutions through dialogue remains a top priority, even as tensions escalate across the region. Speaking at his weekly briefing in Doha, ministry spokesperson Majid al-Ansari called on all parties to engage fully in mediation efforts led by Qatar, Pakistan, and other regional players, describing talks as "the only way out of this crisis."

Al-Ansari addressed recent sanctions imposed on Iran, noting that they are unilateral rather than United Nations or multilateral measures. He suggested that those who chose to impose such sanctions should answer for their actions, while emphasizing Qatar's belief in regional dialogue over bilateral confrontations. He stressed the importance of restoring freedom of navigation and reopening the Strait of Hormuz to its pre-war status.

On the broader Middle East situation, al-Ansari said Qatar is working with the Arab-Islamic Contact Group and international partners to respond to recent statements rejecting the peace plan, incursions at Al-Aqsa Mosque, and violence in Gaza and the West Bank. He indicated that efforts are underway to ensure these developments do not go unanswered.

The spokesperson was sharply critical of Israeli actions, citing activity in Gaza, the West Bank, and what he called blatant attacks on Syrian and Lebanese sovereignty. "There is no partner for peace in Israel," he said, adding that the Israeli government must demonstrate seriousness about a diplomatic resolution by abiding by agreements, including the 20-point plan and President Trump's peace plan. Al-Ansari concluded that the ball is in Israel's court, with no positive movement seen so far.
