Former Maoist leader Radhakka cremated in Adilabad district
Former Maoist leader Kursenga Mothibai alias Radhakka was cremated at Linguguda village in Adilabad district on Tuesday.
Kursenga Mothibai, widely known as Radhakka, was cremated at Linguguda village in Adilabad district on Tuesday. The 55-year-old former Maoist leader died of a heart attack at a hospital in Adilabad on Monday evening.
A native of Pippaldhari village in Adilabad Rural mandal, Radhakka joined the then-banned CPI (ML) People's War Group (PWG) in the mid-1980s. She worked underground with PWG squads in Sirpur and other forest areas before being moved to the Dandakaranya forest region in the late 1990s.
In Chhattisgarh's Bastar region, she became a key leader of the Krantikari Adivasi Mahila Sangathan and later rose to the position of State committee member of the CPI (Maoist).
Police arrested her near Palvancha in 2017 while she was travelling to Khammam for medical treatment. She spent several years in jail before being released after acquittal in the cases against her.
Radhakka had been unwell for the past few weeks. Her funeral was attended by leaders of Adivasi and mass organisations, several former Maoist leaders including former Central Committee member Pulluri Prasad Rao alias Chandranna, and Kumram Bheem Asifabad district Congress committee president Athram Suguna.
