Kerala HC seeks response on plea against Sunny Kapikad over deity remarks
YouTuber Rahul Easwar has petitioned the Kerala High Court for action against Sunny M. Kapikad over alleged derogatory remarks about deities Ayyappa and Malikapurathamma.
The Kerala High Court has sought responses from the state government and police by September 10, 2026, on a plea filed by YouTuber Rahul Easwar seeking action against social activist and writer Sunny M. Kapikad.
Easwar's petition alleges that Kapikad made derogatory remarks about the deities Ayyappa and Malikapurathamma in videos circulating on social media. The plea requests the court to direct the state government, police, and Meta to remove the videos, along with all related URLs and digital copies.
The petitioner has also sought the registration of a criminal case against Kapikad. Additionally, the plea asks for directions to Meta and other social media platforms to temporarily block, take down, or disable public access to the contentious video.
Easwar contends that Kapikad's alleged remarks constitute offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000. These include attempting to promote disharmony between religious groups, making assertions that harm national integration, and deliberately outraging religious feelings.
Justice G. Girish, presiding over the matter, has issued notices to Kapikad and Meta, directing the state and police authorities to file their responses by the specified date.
