Rahul Gandhi backs Bihar students, says youth voice cannot be silenced

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday threw his weight behind students from Bihar who claim they faced excessive force during recent protests over examinations and job opportunities. He accused the state administration of using lathis and even firearms against peaceful demonstrators.

In a post on X, Gandhi alleged that several students were injured in the crackdown, including a young man preparing for the Army who reportedly suffered a bullet wound to his leg from an AK-47. Gandhi described the incident as shattering the aspirant's lifelong dream of serving the nation.

Gandhi questioned the justification for such force, arguing that the government cannot escape responsibility by blaming low-ranking officials. He asserted that the action was either ordered from above or reflected a complete administrative failure.

Reiterating his support, Gandhi said he stood firmly with the young protesters and was willing to offer every possible assistance. He cautioned the BJP that any regime suppressing the voice of the youth would eventually have to answer to the people, adding that the day of reckoning was not far.

Separately, Gandhi responded to a plea from a Dalit girl seeking action against those who allegedly assaulted her father. He accused the Delhi Police of inhuman brutality and questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged protection of the accused. Gandhi assured the girl that her fight was not alone and that they would not stop until justice was served.
