Rahul Gandhi Hits Out at PM Over Delhi Building Collapse, Cites Lack of Accountability

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday accused the BJP-led government of failing to take responsibility for the recent building collapse in Delhi's Satya Niketan area, which killed seven people. He alleged that the administration's response to such tragedies follows a predictable pattern of inaction followed by blame-shifting onto lower-ranking officials.

In a post on social media platform X, Gandhi questioned the government's helplessness, especially given that Delhi is governed by a "triple-engine" administration. He argued that this apparent helplessness is rooted in a fundamental lack of intent, which in turn leads to a complete absence of accountability.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha also took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that those who demand answers are met with insulting labels such as "dimagi Naxal" and "naraaz phoopha." He stated that the intent behind such remarks is to shame and silence critics.

Gandhi highlighted that the Satya Niketan incident is not an isolated one, referencing a similar collapse in Saidulajab that killed six people and a fire in Hauz Rani that claimed 22 lives in the last four months. He asserted that despite these repeated tragedies, no substantial preventive action has been taken.

He further criticised the government for spending twelve years on lofty rhetoric while ignoring the core issues affecting citizens. His comments come a day after the five-storey building, located in a congested area near Delhi University's South Campus, collapsed.
