Rahul Gandhi urges district chiefs to uphold Congress ideology at Nashik camp
Rahul Gandhi addressed a training camp for Congress district presidents in Nashik, urging them to uphold party ideology and fight for justice.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday concluded a day-long visit to Nashik, Maharashtra, where he addressed a training camp for newly appointed district and city unit presidents. He urged the leaders to remain steadfast in their commitment to the party's ideology and to work towards ensuring justice for all citizens.
During his interaction with the district chiefs, which lasted around two hours, Mr. Gandhi also gave a practical demonstration of karate and jujutsu. The traditional Japanese martial art, which focuses on holds, throws, and strikes, was presented as a means to build mental and physical strength. The 10-day training programme for the newly appointed district presidents concluded in his presence.
Congress Working Committee member Arif Naseem Khan said Mr. Gandhi met the newly-elected presidents and their families, delivering a clear message about standing firmly with the Congress ideology. The visit also included meetings with senior Maharashtra Congress leaders and an interaction with tribal students.
Former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, who was present in Nashik, said the discussions covered several pressing state issues. These included concerns over the exclusion of over 2.06 crore electors from the state's draft electoral roll following the Special Intensive Revision exercise. The upcoming Nashik Kumbh Mela, scheduled to begin in October, was also a topic of discussion, with Mr. Chavan highlighting concerns over budgetary allocations and alleged commission demands. Other issues raised included farmer suicides and the opposition to the ₹1 lakh crore Shaktipeeth highway project.
Separately, BJP leaders and supporters, including Nashik Mayor Himgauri Aher-Adake, held a protest against Mr. Gandhi's visit, accusing the Congress of opposing women's representation in legislative bodies.
This was Mr. Gandhi's second visit to Maharashtra in recent weeks, following his participation in the 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' student movement in Pune on August 22.
