Rahul Gandhi Calls 'Vote Chori' Treason After Poll Panel Dissent
Rahul Gandhi termed vote theft a crime against Indians and an attack on the Constitution after two Election Commissioners raised concerns over voter roll changes.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday described "vote chori" as a crime against the Indian people and a direct attack on the Constitution, warning that those responsible would face justice.
In a post on X, Gandhi said the BJP, the RSS and the Election Commission had committed "an act of treason" by organising it. "Justice will be served," he added.
His remarks followed a report revealing that two of the three Election Commissioners had complained about being kept in the dark on decisions relating to adding new voters and deleting existing names from the electoral rolls.
Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi described the decisions on new voters as "unauthorised and illegal." They also cautioned against voter database access being centralised in Delhi, bypassing state officials.
The dissent within the poll panel has sharpened political debate over the integrity of electoral roll revisions, with the opposition seizing on the commissioners' objections to question the process.
