Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday described "vote chori" as a crime against the Indian people and a direct assault on the Constitution, alleging that the BJP, the RSS and the Election Commission, which he said organised it, had committed treason. "Justice will be served," the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said.
His remarks, posted on X along with a video of earlier comments, came after a report in an English daily revealed that questions were repeatedly raised within the three-member Election Commission over matters related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Two of the three election commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, are said to have formally objected, on record, at least 14 times over the past 10 months — four times on a single day — to decisions and orders they say were issued without their knowledge.
The national rollout of the SIR has been supervised by all three commissioners. In the video he shared, Mr. Gandhi had earlier warned Election Commission officials that their conduct amounted to treason and that they would not be spared.
