Karnataka Minister promises job, aid to Dalit family of murdered woman
Minister K.H. Muniyappa visited a Dalit family in Raichur after the gang-rape and murder of a 22-year-old woman, promising a government job and other support.
Social Welfare Minister K.H. Muniyappa on Friday visited the family of a 22-year-old Dalit woman who was allegedly gang-raped and murdered in Hokrani village, Sirwar taluk, Raichur district. The minister offered his condolences and condemned the crime as deeply inhuman.
During the visit, Muniyappa promised a government job to the victim's brother. He also directed officials to provide irrigation facilities for the family's dry farmland and assured them of full state support.
The woman's body was found in an open well a day after the incident.
Muniyappa, who is also the in-charge minister for Bengaluru Rural district, instructed local authorities to take strict action against any illegal activities in rural areas. He stressed the need for communal harmony and the smooth delivery of government benefits to all citizens.
"A spirit of brotherhood must flourish among all communities," he said. "Villages can only progress when people live in peace and mutual coordination."
Deputy Commissioner Poovitha S. directed the CEO of the zilla panchayat, the Superintendent of Police, and other officials to conduct regular village visits to raise awareness about government schemes.
The minister also visited the family of another murder victim in nearby Haddinal village to offer his condolences.
