RailOne App Adds Shared Season Ticket Facility for Up to Five Others

Indian Railways has rolled out a shared season ticket facility on the RailOne app, allowing a registered user to book season tickets not only for themselves but also for up to five other people, including family members and other passengers. The facility took effect on September 9, 2026.

Under the arrangement, a season ticket booked for the registered user becomes valid the same day once geographical verification is completed. A ticket booked for another person, however, becomes valid only from the following day.

On eligibility, the minimum age for booking a season ticket for oneself is 18 years, while a passenger booked under the facility for another person must be at least five years old.

What a season ticket covers

A season ticket in Indian Railways permits multiple journeys between two specified stations in Second Class. For both suburban and non-suburban sections, such tickets can generally be issued for journeys of up to 150 km. The facility is open to general passengers as well as students.

Season ticket holders are not allowed to travel in reserved coaches or on trains where distance-based travel restrictions apply.

Verification and travel rules

During travel, passengers may present either a printed copy of the shared season ticket or its PDF version displayed on a mobile phone. The ticket carries the passenger's photograph and a QR code, which ticket-checking staff can scan with a handheld terminal to verify it when required.

Passengers must carry the valid season ticket itself, as a booking receipt or invoice alone will not be accepted for travel. Authorities have also advised travellers to keep the QR code clear and readable. If a ticket's authenticity cannot be verified because the QR code is damaged or unreadable, action may be taken as per railway rules.
