Railways to Run Month-Long Special Ticket Checking Drive from October 1

Indian Railways will intensify ticket checking across Central Railway from October 1 to October 31, 2026, with special attention to the validity and authenticity of passenger tickets. The drive has been planned ahead of the festival season, when passenger traffic is expected to rise.

Original ID proof mandatory

Ticket-checking staff will verify that passengers travelling on concessions or under specified reservation quotas carry the prescribed original identity proof to establish their eligibility. Where a ticket has been booked for multiple passengers, at least one passenger named on the ticket must carry the required original proof.

In the absence of the required original document, all passengers travelling on that ticket will be treated as travelling without a valid ticket under the applicable rules.

Checks on concessions, quotas and passes

Staff will also examine the original documents required for passengers travelling under specified concessions or reservation quotas. Those using an E-Pass or PTO must carry the prescribed original identity proof and ensure the E-Pass or PTO has been duly exchanged for the prescribed authority to travel before starting the journey.

Focus on unreserved tickets

Special attention will be given to verifying the genuineness of unreserved tickets. Ticket-checking staff may use the TTE App where required to authenticate and verify tickets during the drive.

Aim of the drive

The intensive checking is intended to curb misuse of reservation facilities, prevent fraudulent use of concessions and passes, check the authenticity of tickets and plug leakage of railway revenue.

Valid identity documents

Indian Railways accepts the following documents for train travel:

• Voter photo identity card issued by the Election Commission of India
• PAN card issued by the Income Tax Department
• Driving licence issued by an RTO
• Photo identity card with a serial number issued by a central or state government
• Student identity card with photograph issued by a recognised school or college
• Nationalised bank passbook with photograph
• Credit cards issued by banks with a laminated photograph
• Aadhaar
