Raipur Jail Inmates Craft 500 Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idols for Chaturthi
Inmates at Central Jail Raipur made ~500 eco-friendly Ganesh idols with natural clay and embedded seeds, now sold at Jail Emporium.
Inmates of Central Jail Raipur have prepared around 500 eco-friendly idols of Lord Ganesh ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, an initiative aimed at promoting environmental conservation.
Jail Superintendent Yogesh Singh said the idols, ranging from one to two feet in height, are made exclusively from natural clay and organic colours. A distinctive feature is the incorporation of seeds of tulsi and other plants inside the idols. When the idols are immersed in water after the festival, these seeds are expected to germinate, contributing to the environment.
Singh described the project as blending religious faith with environmental protection and sustainability. Ten inmates meticulously crafted the idols, an activity that supports personality development, skill enhancement, and positive thinking among prisoners. It also connects them with socially useful and eco-friendly causes.
The idols are available for purchase at the Jail Emporium. Central Jail Raipur regularly conducts skill development and production activities aimed at the rehabilitation and self-reliance of inmates.
