Rajasthan Meets 10-Crore Sapling Target Early Under Hariyalo Campaign

Rajasthan has completed the planting of 10 crore saplings under its 'Hariyalo Rajasthan' campaign, reaching a goal that had been set for the 2026-27 period well ahead of the deadline. The mission was launched in August 2024 with the aim of making the desert State greener and improving its environmental health and prosperity.

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said on Wednesday that initiatives such as the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign had built broad public awareness by tying environmental conservation to an emotional bond. That sentiment, he said, had grown into a large public movement through the Hariyalo Rajasthan campaign, describing it as a significant step towards conservation driven by public participation.

Mr. Sharma said the planting of 10 crore saplings was a strong symbol of the State's collective commitment to nature, and that those taking part in the drive would look after every sapling planted.

The State is also running a "one district one species" programme to encourage native plant species and protect biodiversity. Special attention has been given to desert districts such as Barmer and Jaisalmer to counter desertification.

Under the Aravali Green Development Project, ₹250 crore has been invested across 19 districts for soil development and plantation work.
