Rajasthan razes unsafe school building spotlighted by CJP campaign
A dilapidated Rajasthan government school, highlighted by CJP activists last month, was demolished to make way for a new building.
The dilapidated building of a government primary school in Rampura-Kanwarpura village, near Jaipur, was demolished on Wednesday (September 2, 2026) to make way for a new structure. The school had drawn attention last month when activists from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) visited to highlight its poor condition and were allegedly attacked by villagers.
The building, constructed in 1985, had been declared unsafe following a technical survey in September 2025. Students had been studying in a cattle enclosure nearby under unhygienic conditions. They have now been shifted to a vacant house.
The demolition was carried out in the presence of district administration and Education Department officials. The State government has sanctioned ₹18 lakh for the new building, including ₹6 lakh from the MLA local area development fund.
The controversy began on August 21 when a CJP team visited the school as part of its 'School Thik Karo' campaign, which assesses school infrastructure and facilities across Rajasthan. The CJP alleged that BJP workers attacked its members, while villagers accused the group of intimidating residents. Both sides filed complaints, leading to FIRs.
CJP leader Ashutosh Ranka called the decision a victory for students. "This is the same school that was running in the buffalo shed… When a good school is built for our children, it will all be worth it!" he said.
The demolition follows a broader state-wide safety audit of 65,308 government schools. The Education Department has proposed an action plan worth ₹12,335.90 crore for 2026-27 to 2030-31, identifying 3,768 dilapidated school buildings and 83,783 dilapidated classrooms.
Additional Chief Secretary (School Education) Rajesh Yadav said a committee of experts from IIT-Jodhpur and Malviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur, has been formed for independent safety investigations. An investment of ₹3,000 crore is planned this year, with ₹2,487.75 crore earmarked for 3,587 new school buildings and ₹1,129.45 crore for major repairs of 22,589 schools.
