Rajasthan Urban Local Body Polls: Phase One Voting Underway Across 162 Civic Bodies

Voting for the first phase of Rajasthan's urban local body elections commenced at 7 am on Wednesday across 162 civic bodies, marking the beginning of a two-phase electoral exercise. More than 20,000 candidates are contesting for 5,393 councillor seats in this phase.
The first phase covers four municipal corporations, 27 municipal councils, and 131 municipalities. A total of 57.52 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise at 7,683 polling booths across these regions.
However, the polling process was not without hiccups. Technical glitches in electronic voting machines (EVMs) were reported in Alwar, Sawai Madhopur, and Jodhpur. In Alwar, the issue led to protests by voters, while in other areas, the glitches resulted in long queues at polling stations.
In Jaipur district, polling is being held across 18 urban local bodies at 565 booths. The elections for Rajasthan's 309 urban local bodies are being conducted in two phases on September 9 and 11. Counting of votes for the councillor posts is scheduled for September 14.
