Ramaphosa Meets Gautam Adani in New Delhi on BRICS Summit Sidelines

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa met Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani in New Delhi to discuss deepening commercial and investment ties during the 18th BRICS Summit.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa met Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, in New Delhi on Friday, with the two discussing ways to strengthen commercial and investment links between South Africa and India.

The meeting took place on the margins of the 18th BRICS Summit, which India is hosting, and formed part of South Africa's business engagements during the President's visit, the South African Presidency said in a statement.

Ramaphosa also met Tom Joseph, Senior Vice President of the Motherson Modules and Polymer Division, as part of the same round of business interactions.

Earlier in the day, the South African President addressed the Leaders' Session of the BRICS Business Forum, where he described the grouping as being at an inflection point. He pointed to a reshaping global economy, shifting trade patterns, accelerating technological change and mounting climate pressures as forces pushing countries and companies to rethink where they source, produce and invest.

Ramaphosa framed those shifts as an opening for the Global South to build an economic future that is more resilient, diversified and inclusive.

He also underlined the role of the private sector in economic cooperation, recalling that the BRICS Business Council was set up during South Africa's first presidency of the grouping in 2013, on the understanding that economic cooperation cannot rest with governments alone. He noted that 120 South African companies were taking part in the business forum.

The BRICS Business Forum serves as the grouping's flagship private-sector platform, drawing together business leaders, ministers and heads of state to deliberate on trade, investment, finance, technology and development issues on the BRICS economic agenda.
