Ramayana makers unveil behind-the-scenes video of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama

The team behind the two-part film Ramayana has released a behind-the-scenes video centred on Ranbir Kapoor's portrayal of Lord Rama, timed to the actor's birthday. The footage traces his preparation for the role and offers glimpses of the wider cast and the effort involved in adapting the epic for the big screen.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.

In the video, Tiwari reflects on the care needed to cast a project of this nature, pointing to the faith and emotional attachment audiences hold for the epic. Ranbir describes the part as a responsibility rather than an ordinary film role. Arun Govil, who plays King Dashrath, appears alongside Sai Pallavi and Ravi Dubey, each speaking about the qualities that make Ranbir suited to the character.

The clip also shows the actors preparing for their roles and filming key sequences, and turns to the film's action work. International action director Terry Notary has trained Ranbir for the fight sequences, with stunt professionals drawn from around the world. Producer Namit Malhotra has assembled Indian and international talent for the project, which seeks to present the epic on a large scale while keeping its cultural roots intact.

The video follows a run of promotional material, including a recently released trailer that has drawn attention to the film's scale and ensemble. Ramayana is produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios with DNEG and Yash's Monster Mind Creations.

The first part is scheduled for a worldwide release during Diwali 2026, with the second arriving at Diwali 2027. The films will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam across India. Sony Pictures will handle distribution outside India, while Dharma Productions will distribute the Hindi-language version. A worldwide IMAX release is also planned.
