Vijayapura doctors save woman with rare brain aneurysm surgery

A 47-year-old woman from Bagalkot district is recovering at home after undergoing a rare and complex brain surgery at a hospital in Vijayapura, Karnataka. The procedure, performed free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat-Arogya Karnataka (AB-ArK) scheme, saved her life after she suffered a severe brain hemorrhage.

Renavva Nalatwada, a resident of Chittaragi village in Hunagunda taluk, was admitted to B.L.D.E. Deemed University B.M. Patil Medical College and Hospital with a grade-4 subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and a ruptured aneurysm at the bifurcation of the right middle cerebral artery (MCA). CT and angiography scans revealed a bilobed aneurysm, prompting doctors to recommend urgent microsurgical intervention.

The surgical team, led by Dr. Mallappa Huggi, successfully clipped the neck of the aneurysm while preserving the critical MCA branches and delicate perforator vessels that supply blood to the brain. Despite the patient's critical condition, her recovery was smooth, with no new neurological deficits observed after the operation.

Renavva was discharged on the seventh day post-surgery and has returned home healthy. Doctors credited timely diagnosis, immediate surgery, and coordinated intensive care for the successful outcome.

Minister and BLDE president M.B. Patil congratulated the medical team for their expertise and dedication.
