Bittu alleges AAP workers attacked his cavalcade near Batala

BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu on Friday alleged that his cavalcade was attacked near Batala in Punjab while he was travelling to attend his party's anti-drug yatra in Pathankot.

Mr. Bittu claimed that more than 100 workers of the Aam Aadmi Party targeted the convoy, throwing stones and eggs at it. A window pane of two escort vehicles was broken and a jammer vehicle was also damaged, he alleged.

The incident, according to Mr. Bittu, occurred when his cavalcade slowed down slightly. He accused the local police of remaining a mute spectator through the episode.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Batala, Mehtab Singh, could not be reached for comment.

Speaking to reporters, the BJP leader said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the state Director General of Police would be held responsible if anything happened to him or to those accompanying him. He added that he had brought the matter to the notice of the Union Home Ministry.

Mr. Bittu, the grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, was on his way to Pathankot for the anti-drug yatra being launched by BJP president Nitin Nabin. His security team has reportedly apprehended three individuals in connection with the incident.
