Revanth dares Opposition to debate Congress performance in Assembly
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy challenges Opposition to a special Assembly debate on his government's performance, while defending infrastructure spending and the Musi rejuvenation project.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has thrown down the gauntlet to Opposition parties, challenging them to a debate on the floor of the Legislature over the performance of his 30-month-old government. Speaking at a public meeting in Nalgonda after inaugurating several development works, he offered to convene special sessions of both the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council to settle the question of which administration has delivered more.
"They keep asking what the Congress has done and what Revanth Reddy has brought to the State," he said, daring rivals to write to the Speaker and Council Chairman to request such sittings. "Let us settle in the Assembly who has done what."
The Chief Minister's challenge extends beyond his own tenure. He also proposed comparing the record of the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government under K. Chandrashekhar Rao and the BJP-led dispensation at the Centre. He alleged that the BRS, in just ten years, left Telangana saddled with debts of ₹8.11 lakh crore, describing the damage as something that would take a century to repair.
Dismissing the BRS's electoral prospects, Mr. Reddy claimed the party had lost public support and that society had "permanently socially boycotted" the former Chief Minister's family. "It is not the people, but their family that wants power again," he said, adding that the Opposition could only talk about the past.
On infrastructure, the Chief Minister reiterated his commitment to completing the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project before the next elections and to the rejuvenation of the Musi River. He warned that any obstruction to the riverfront project would be dealt with firmly, stating that those opposing it would be 'thrown into the Musi and trampled upon'.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who also addressed the gathering, highlighted the scale of road development spending. He noted that the Chief Minister had recently laid the foundation for highways under the HAM scheme worth ₹13,000 crore. An additional ₹13,000 crore has been allocated under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), with another ₹10,000 crore coming from state budgetary provisions.
Mr. Vikramarka said that including funds from both Central and State schemes, nearly ₹90,000 crore was being invested in road infrastructure, laying a strong foundation for the State's future growth. He lauded Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy for launching road works worth nearly ₹23,000 crore. Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy also spoke at the meeting.
