Revanth Reddy Cites Flash Survey, Says BRS Image Has Suffered

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has said a flash survey commissioned by his government over the past three days showed that the public was holding the BRS responsible for disrupting Assembly proceedings, while the Congress government and its performance continued to enjoy a strong positive perception.

Addressing a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party, the Chief Minister alleged that the BRS had deliberately created disorder in the House to deflect attention from the government's plan to expose alleged irregularities in Dharani, the land records management system, during the earlier BRS regime. He said the government would use the remaining days of the session to bring out these alleged irregularities and to discuss the 22-A lands issue, which he said would provide clarity. According to him, only 3.06 lakh acres fall under 22A.

Mr. Reddy accused BRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao of conspiring to prevent the House from functioning smoothly. He said the opposition party, despite losing power, had not shed its arrogance and had spent three days disrupting proceedings, allegedly abusing police officials and public representatives.

The Chief Minister asked Congress legislators to maintain their attendance through the session and to raise issues concerning their constituencies, cautioning that individual performance would directly affect their chances of winning a second term.

Turning to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Mr. Reddy urged party legislators to take the exercise seriously, alleging a conspiracy to delete votes. He claimed that while the country's adult population had been estimated at 103 crore, electoral rolls showed only 88 crore voters, suggesting that nearly 15 crore votes had gone missing. "Some danger is lurking somewhere," he cautioned.

Mr. Reddy thanked the legislators for their cooperation during the first 1,000 days of the Congress government, during which, he said, programmes unprecedented in the country had been introduced. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud and several ministers also spoke at the meeting, which was attended by party MLAs and MLCs.
