Revanth Reddy's 'Bull-Pig' Jibe at KCR Sparks Political Firestorm
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy's 'Nandi-Pandi' comparison targeting KCR has triggered a fresh political row with the BRS.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has ignited a fresh political controversy with personal remarks aimed at his predecessor, K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), the president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
Speaking at a public event in Hyderabad, Reddy questioned KCR's absence from active politics and the state Assembly. He dismissed any comparison between the two, invoking a Telugu saying to illustrate the perceived gulf. "The difference is like between a 'Nandi' (sacred bull of Lord Shiva) and 'Pandi' (pig). How can you be compared with me?" he said.
The Chief Minister further sharpened his attack with another metaphor, stating, "A donkey doesn't know the fragrance of sandalwood. No matter how much paint you put on a donkey, it will never become a racehorse."
The comments drew an immediate and strong response from BRS leaders, who accused Reddy of lowering the standard of political debate by resorting to personal attacks. BRS leader T. Harish Rao criticised the Chief Minister, asserting that he was avoiding questions about his government's performance by targeting KCR. Rao has repeatedly accused Reddy of using KCR as a distraction from pressing state issues.
The spat unfolds against the backdrop of an intensifying fight over KCR's role as Leader of the Opposition in the Telangana Assembly. Reddy has alleged that KCR has largely remained confined to his farmhouse for around 1,000 days and has questioned his suitability for the post if he is not fulfilling his duties.
In a related move, the Chief Minister has called on Congress workers to stage protests from September 1 to 6, demanding KCR's resignation as Leader of the Opposition. The state Assembly's monsoon session is scheduled to begin on September 7.
BRS leaders have rejected the criticism, defending KCR and insisting that political differences should not devolve into personal attacks. The exchange sets the stage for an aggressive political confrontation between the Congress and BRS ahead of the upcoming Assembly session.
