Judge rules suspect in Rihanna home shooting fit to stand trial

A Los Angeles judge on Tuesday declared a woman accused of firing multiple rounds at the home of Rihanna and A$AP Rocky mentally competent to face trial, clearing the way for criminal proceedings that had been paused shortly after they began.

Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 36, of Orlando, Florida, has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder of the singer and more than a dozen other felony counts tied to the March shooting. No one was hurt in the incident, but bullets passed through an Airstream trailer in which the celebrity couple was present at the time. Other rounds struck the wall of a nursery used by their young children.

During a brief hearing at Los Angeles County court, Judge Maria Cavalluzzi issued the competency finding after psychiatric evaluations of Ortiz were carried out. The court did not discuss the substance of those evaluations, and case documents containing such details remain sealed.

With the ruling, Ortiz returns to the ordinary criminal court process, which had been suspended soon after it started. She was directed to appear for a hearing on Wednesday.
