Rob Reiner Wins Posthumous Emmy for Guest Role in 'The Bear'

Rob Reiner has been posthumously awarded the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in 'The Bear'. The honour was announced during the second night of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, nearly nine months after his death.

Reiner's nomination placed him ahead of a competitive field that included Michael J. Fox and Brett Goldstein for 'Shrinking', Hamish Linklater for 'Widow's Bay', Christopher McDonald for 'Hacks', and Connor Storrie for 'Saturday Night Live'.

Presenter Wendi McLendon-Covey accepted the award on Reiner's behalf after the audience gave a minute-long standing ovation. "It's appropriate to stand for this one. I know we all wish Rob could be here tonight," she told the audience.

The win marks a significant milestone, being the first posthumous Emmy for an on-camera performance since Raul Julia's win in 1995. It is also Reiner's first acting Emmy since his 1978 win for 'All in the Family', where he played Michael 'Meathead' Stivic.

Reiner, who passed away at 78, was remembered for his extensive body of work, including classics such as 'This Is Spinal Tap', 'The Princess Bride', 'When Harry Met Sally', and 'A Few Good Men'. His guest appearance on 'The Bear' is considered one of his final screen performances.

The Creative Arts Emmys are held over two days, typically a week before the Primetime Emmy Awards. The 78th Primetime Emmys, hosted by Mariska Hargitay, are scheduled to air live on September 14.
